I am really excited to start my journal of my tea experiences. I think it is necessary to truly keep in reflection of what you taste and experience in tea. Although, I have had many before, today, I start over a new leaf.
In March I had the opportunity to travel to Brazil. I was curious of what tea they drink and how. Brazil is a country more interested in strong, strong coffee and only adding agave nectar (or similar clear sweeteners) to their beverages. The second day I was there, I found a store with a tea section. All of them boxed and in tea bags.. but tea none the less.
I bought several kinds to try. One with lime, one with cinnamon, and a regular black tea. As I expected, there were no loose teas or any type of green tea. The tea was relatively inexpensive as well, which worked with my budget.
The Lime black tea has a strong musk to it, it mirrors the heaviness of the air in humid Brazil. The lime was lightly present but not overpowering either. The black is a good tea, but easily over steeped. If you are not too careful, the bitterness is strong, just like their coffee. Overall, Brazilian tea was an experience and allows you to taste a part of Brazil in a cup.

Nice review, but I don’t know why I can’t see the picture.
Thank you, I am not sure why…
Hi – welcome to the Tea Trade blogophere.
Thank you!
Welcome to our caravan of tea and related madness!
Thank you! Im excited!
Interesting – I agree, when I think of tea drinkers, Brazilians don’t really spring to my mind. I suppose they must have loose leaf tea shops there too, especially in Sao Paulo with its nearly eleven million inhabitants, but I’m sure coffee shops far outnumber them.
It must have been fun trying out the new teas, you never know what to expect.
Welcome aboard.
I looked for this company and they were a former Maté company that was bought by Coca Cola (thanks Wikipedia since my Portuguese is not really good).
